I am an ordinary person. I hope that my articles here at Suite 101 will inspire you (the readers) to believe in yourself, so that you may achieve your dreams. After all "We Are The Champions."
Just this past Tuesday, I went to see my doctor. I've been sick with a cold for about two weeks. After she wrote me a prescription for antibiotics, I told her about my job at Suite 101. The Dr. asked what I had currently been writing my articles about, to which I replied, Hearing Impairment and Writing. She congratulated me on my new found success with Suite 101, and then proceeded to tell me about her friend who is Hearing Impaired, yet her friend is now a doctor. They had gone to classes together, and my doctor explained to me about her friend having someone take notes for her while she was in class, due to her Hearing Impairment. However, they refused to teach her sign language, they told her to read lips. In addition, they explained to this student that learning sign language would take to long for the soon to be doctor to be able to communicate with both other doctors, and patients. Now that she is a doctor she has hearing aids in both ears, but they are a special kind which allows her to adjust them when using a stethoscope. Rick is a General Manager at a local "Albertson's Supermarket." We have spoken about my writing many times, and he's shared with me some of his lives experiences. When Rick was just an infant the doctors thought he was retarded due to his total deafness as a child. They operated on his ears to restore his hearing, however, something went wrong with the procedure and he's still partially deaf in one ear. We agreed that it's important to have a positive attitude to enjoy life. Elizabeth Brinkley is someone I met on the Delphi board, for the deaf and hearing impaired. She asked me to complete a survey that she was taking. I answered her questions and returned it to her. It deals with job experiences for hearing impaired employees. Elizabeth works at a hospital in England. We talked about how we've both stopped wearing our hearing aids. I told her that I've noticed when I'm extremely tired, is when my hearing is at it's worst, she agreed, she experiences the same situations. I found a poem about success, in the book "Chicken Soup at Work" in the chapter called, "Follow Your Heart" here's the poem:
