Surrounded By Colour

It has long been speculated that color has a distinct effect on the human psyche. Whether it be the walls of a room or a spot of color on a screen, numerous physicians and researchers have concluded that the influence of color on emotions, health and mental balance, are very real.

Home parents spend a considerable amount of time in their houses, and therefore could be greatly affected by an interior color scheme. Though we all have individual preferences and varying levels of comfort, it is important when experiencing unusual or extreme moods to understand the role of home environment on emotions. The wrong color of paint in a sitting room could contribute to feelings of anxiety, depression, lethargy or fatigue. Similarly, a fresh coat of paint in the kitchen could increase energy, improve appetite or create a sense of calmness. The effects of each color will vary in severity and strength for different people, and could depend on the length of time spent in the environment.

Redecorating is a marvelous way to pull oneself out of a slump, add variety to the home or improve family morale. A home mom feeling a little aimless, unfocused or unappreciated can get a great lift by changing her everyday environment. In order to add the right décor to your home, begin by recalling a room that you visited or saw that made you very comfortable and at ease. Then conjure up the image of a room that gave you a burst of energy or a feeling of giddiness or hyperactivity. Try to recall a room that made you feel tense or instinctively uncomfortable. This is an excellent start to planning your home. Consider the following beliefs:

MINT GREEN is said to inspire calmness and encourage the growth of cells. You might have noticed that hospitals and doctor’s offices often have painted their waiting and examination rooms in a light green. This color might be an effective calming influence in a bedroom, reading room or child’s room.

It is claimed that LIGHT BLUE encourages communication. In fact, it has been suggested as an appropriate color for conference rooms and classrooms. Perhaps painting a dining room in this color would help to inspire great conversation between family members at dinnertime.

ROSE PINK and LAVENDAR are strongly suggested as colors which will help one to sleep. Because they have very soothing properties they are perfect for bedrooms. However, it has been found that these colors used in central or well-used areas, like an office or kitchen, may induce feelings of fatigue or disorientation.
