Winterizing your skin By Pamela Conoly

Now it is time to handle the switch in climate concerning your skin. We have all gotten use to the heat of the summer and the first chill always takes us by surprise especially for our skin. As soon as you wake up to your first cold(not just cool)morning, cleanse properly. Start using your foundation again if you have not already. Some women do not use foundation in the summer. Get out your heavier moisturizer to use before applying your foundation. All of these things properly formulated to your proper skin type of course. No season is good for having oily skin be it summer or winter. But if you do not protect your skin properly from the cold chill of winter it could become chapped, which is most uncomfortable. Rates up there with sunburn for me! So you see,you have to protect from the harsh cold much like protecting from the heat. Dry skin is now going to be more of a culprit. As we went through the summer most of us had trouble keeping dry and oil free. Now we are going to have to fight dry skin without being too oily. Dry chapped skin in the winter is usually a result from heating, fireplaces and no humidity in the air than just the bitter cold. Be sure that after you shower or bathe you apply a layer of body lotion not too perfumed. Body lotions that have a lot of perfumed smell tend to just soak in and not be much help in the dry area. So be sure to use one that does not have a lot of perfume. The less the better especially if you are going somewhere are going to be applying perfume afterwards. If you have extremely dry red itchy skin, for example,on your hands, lotions and creams are not going to cut it. Vaseline works wonders on this wear something looser than gloves over it like socks. This is not very pretty so you would want to do this at bedtime. It works great but you may have to repeat it a couple of times depending on how bad your dryness is. This procedure is not to be used on burns. If the condition is because of a burn then you need to seek professional help. As for the rest of your body if you have dry itchy skin an oatmeal bath, which you can find in most drug stores,or about a capful of baby oil(not bath oil)in warm bath water will relieve this condition right away. Then follow up with body lotion afterwards.
