Yellow Nails an age old problemYellow Nails an age old problem. By Pamela Conoly This is an age old problem that can be easy to fix. Here is a simple manicure you can do at home. 1. Make sure you wash your hands with a good antibacterial soap. If you don’t have antibacterial soap at least wash your hands with regular soap. Dry thoroughly. 2. Before you do anything else get an emery board, preferably a nice thick salon type. You can find them in any drug store. Gently and very very lightly file at the yellow stain on your nail. Be very careful not to file past the nail into the delicate under part. It doesn’t take much to get this off,but is often tedious. If your nervous about doing it have it done by a professional. Please make sure that your nail file is clean. 3. After you’ve taken off the yellow apply cuticle cream,if you have it,to your cuticles. If you don’t have cuticle cream a light lotion will do. 4. Next you can gently push your cuticles back with an orange stick(cuticle stick). You can also use the small end of your nail file. If you have a cuticle remover you can then proceed to remove any dead cuticle. A cuticle remover is a two pronged tool, most of them have a special tip at the end for pushing cuticles back. 5. Now your nails are ready for buffing. If you have never buffed your nails your in for a real treat! It will take a few minutes but the results are amazing. Use a little light lotion or hand cream on your hands and work it into your nails. Then start buffing your nails. Nails are rounded on the top surface so buff in that direction. Pretty soon,if you keep it up,yournails will start to have a sheen to them. 6. Now your ready for polish. There are a lot of reasons for your nails turning yellow. A common one is not using a base coat. Base coat goes on first, then one to two coats of your favorite polish. Let dry in between. Followed by a coat of top coat. The top coat can also be clear polish. Granted this may take a while, whos got time to give thierself a manicure? But,at any rate,it is surprisingly relaxing,a great stress buster! On a more serious note,if your nails are yellow, hurting and sore you should go to a Doctor before doing anything,as you may have an infection and this would greatly aggrevate the condition. Always remember to be gentle with your nails when you are working with them and it is always a good idea to
