Saying Good-bye

My Decision To Leave
At first my plan was to leave Suite101.com without saying good-bye. I was deeply hurt and angry. A series of disappointments and unfortunate misunderstandings began to occur towards the latter part of last year, which made me seriously question my reasons for staying on as the editor for Health and Nutrition.
My decision to leave was not based on the actions of any one person or event. Although certain events did play a part in my decision, there were many other contributing factors which had a greater influence. But none of these factors were as devastating to me as the death of my beloved Papa, who passed away on December 31, 1997, from the complications associated with Alzheimer's disease.
It took me a long time to realize that my decision to leave this topic, was not entirely based upon my reactions to the events I experienced as an editor or the emotions that followed as a result. I finally discovered that it was the combination of events happening in my life at the same time which caused me to shut down emotionally. The road which led me to this depression may have been short, but the ride to the depths of despair has been very long.
Because of the problems I am having with depression, along with the many responsibilities and problems - seen and unseen - associated with such an important topic as Health and Nutrition, it is with deep regret that I must say good-bye to this aspect of my life.
Depression: The Weight Of The World
My Papa, a man whose qualities cannot be summed up in a few earthly words, died a horrible death. And when he died, a part of me died with him. All of the joy that had been in my life up to that point in time, vanished as though it had never existed. The many thoughts, feelings and ideas that I wanted to share with you here at this topic, no longer seemed important in the whole scheme of things.
