Farm Aid! Should You Care?

You May Have To Answer This Question

The Concert

On October 4th, 1997, Bob and I watched one of the best concerts we have ever seen on television. TNN televised this wonderful concert for five hours without any commercials interrupting our viewing and listening pleasure. We cranked up the volume as loud as our "old" ears could handle and we jammed to tunes that we have not heard in years.

We had an absolute blast that night. Willie Nelson sure knows how to throw a party! However, as much fun as we had at Willie's party, the purpose of this concert had a profound impact upon us. During those five hours we learned why Willie and his friends were giving this concert in the first place.

I realize that you may be wondering right now, what a concert has to do with nutrition. Well, this particular concert has a lot to do with nutrition when the name of the concert is called Farm Aid!

Farm Aid has everything to do with nutrition, and with our way of life and the quality of our lives as we know it today. Farm Aid fights for issues that are important to us, issues such as - What types of foods will we eat today, and what will the quality of these foods be like now and in the very near future? I strongly urge each of you to become familiar with the issues that Farm Aid is concerned about. These issues affect each of us who live in this country.

I Should Have Paid More Attention

Over the years I saw many advertisements on television about Willie Nelson's concerts, which benefits America's forgotten heroes - the American Farmer. I am sorry that I never took the time to watch any of them. Bob and I thought that we were in the loop - that we knew the truth about what was happening every day to America's farmers and the land upon which we grow our nation's food supply. We have researched and studied these issues since 1986, however, during this concert we learned more about these issues than we ever wanted to know. It broke our hearts to see what is being done every day to our land and to the people who are growning the food we consume.

The more we learned, the more angry and heartbroken we became. I realize now that I should have paid more attention when I first heard about Willie's concerts. I lost valuable time to be of some help to their organization when I turned my head and acted as though these issues did not concern me.

A "what's right" network would be of great use. Is there such a thing? That is: If a web site could tell you who sold foods built on sound farming, you could reward the good. Without that, restric ...
