Reasons To Avoid Processed Foods

Another Conspiracy?

When I began to study natural healthy alternatives to achieve better health in 1986, avoiding processed foods as much as possible became my number one priority! It was extremely difficult at first, however, as with all good things, it became easier to accomplish the more I practiced the art of saying NO to these processed foods. Somehow I was able to will myself to not succumb to the seductive powers these processed foods had over me, with their "taste" appeal and ease of preparation always lurking in the background, calling out to me from every direction and in every aisle of the grocery store.

These "powers," I submit to you, equally have a hold on each of us throughout this modernized world. Wherever you find a grocery store that sells processed foods, you will find a people who are enslaved by these same powers. Perhaps these "powers" are one of the greatest conspiracies known to mankind, untouched by those who usually dare to speak of such things.

The Top Ten Count Down

I ask that each of you who read this article today, consider these top ten reasons to avoid processed foods each time you go to the grocery store to purchase your daily supply of fuel for your body.

10. Listening To Your Mom. Mom said eat your veggies, not processed foods. And she was right you know! ;-)

09. They Ruin Your Taste Buds. Processed foods contain refined sugar, extra salt, and other flavor enhancers. Not only are these often unhealthy, but they dull your taste buds to natural flavors. The result? A need to eat more processed foods to get the taste you want, and natural foods will not taste as good as they should to you.

08. Unhealthy Additives. Unhealthy chemical additives are added to foods so that they will stay "fresh" longer (longer shelf life), or to enhance color.

07. Hide and Seek. Processed foods often contain hidden sugar, salt and fat. All three of these contribute to health problems!

06. Mystery Ingredients. Many processed foods are filled with strange parts and pieces. For example, hot dogs contain "edible offal": animal skin, snouts, ears, esophagi, etc.

05. What Nutrients?. Processing takes a lot of the nutrients out of nutrient-riched foods. You get little that your body needs.

04. Fortified With Synthetics. To make up for the loss of nutrients during processing, synthetic vitamins and minerals are added. Although helpful, these synthetics are not as healthy as their natural counterparts.
