Food Combining: The RulesOf course, I know that this all sounds too simple to believe, but it works! You can enjoy yourself when you eat and eat the foods you like, but you are not throwing every thing under the planet into your mouth at the same time and eating them together in the wrong digestive combinations. By introducing you to proper food combining, all I am suggesting is that you alter some of your existing dietary habits. It is something which can be done at your own pace, but the more you practice it, the more success you will have. Are you ready for The Rules? They are quite simple to learn and to follow, but I will go into a little more detail so that you will have a better understanding of how proper food combining works. The rules are as follows: 1. Eat fruit alone, or leave it alone. Whether you are eating or juicing, fruit should be consumed by itself. The apple is the only exception to this basic rule. Apples combine with all fruits and vegetables. Try not to combine acid fruits with sweet fruits. Do not combine fruit and vegetables for any reason. They are incompatible and will clash enzymatically. All melons should be eaten alone. And never, never, never eat fruit after a meal - this will totally slow down, if not stop the entire digestion process. Eating sweets after a meal is also a no-no. It may sound a little crazy, but if you want to eat fruit or sweets with a meal, then eat them before the meal - wait a little while - and then eat your meal. 2. Do not combine proteins and starches. For example, macaroni and cheese, meat and potatoes, cereal and milk, chicken and pasta. Is it okay to combine protein with another protein or a starch with another starch? Actually, the ideal situation is to eat one concentrated food per meal. This would preclude mixing protein with protein or starch with starch. However, one of these combinations is acceptable, a starch with a starch. The reason that two proteins should not be mixed is that proteins are of such a different character and complex composition that the modifications necessary to meet the digestive requirements of more than one protein food is impossible. The two proteins will clash and retard digestion, which will then putrefy inside the body. In future articles I will
