Finally, there is a thunderclap headache. Now this one is serious because it may indicate an aneurysm. If you have sudden, intense head pain which takes you by surprise like a loud thunderclap and then lasts for several hours, see your doctor ASAP. I am indebted to http://www.pain.com for this and several of the other strange headaches.

I think the moral of all this is that no matter how wacky you think your head pain is, somebody, somewhere has had this before. Don't hesitate to talk to your doctor about it. Since many of us get a little flustered talking to the doctor (particularly now that they are always in a hurry), it's a good idea to write down your symptoms and the timing of your headaches even if you don't take the time to keep a headache diary.
