The park is about a 35 mile drive from the heart of Waikiki. Follow the H-1 west. then onward toward the North Shore via the H-2 freeway. Continue past Waihiawa and Haleiwa. The entrance to the park is on the right, just across the entrance to Waimea Bay Beach Park or about four and a half miles from Haleiwa. By city bus from Waikiki Take bus #8 or #20 on Kuhio Ave to the Ala Moana Shopping Center Catch bus #52 Wahiawa Circle Island. Have the driver announce the Waimea Bay beach stop.

More than a nature park and more than an adventure park. Waimea Falls Park combines the finest of nature, adventure in a Hawaiian cultural setting that makes this park a unique experience.

The entrance to Waimea Valley park is set just off the main road adjacent to the famous surf break at Waimea Bay. The park encompasses more than 1,800 arces in the private valley. The park's main focus is to allow the visitor to examine the lifestyle of ancient Hawaiian as they exsisted in an ahupuaa or village. The 'wai' or water was most cherished as it was known to bring life and sustinance to all living things. The park has many examples of ancient Hawaiian life, but the most interesting is the archeologial site that proves that ancient Hawaiians actually inhabited the land in and around the valley. The main event of course is the cliff diving exhibition from the pool at the base of the falls. The presentation is interesting, and the accompanying music makes it quite enjoyable.

There is a diverse menu of activities that will make a visit here both enjoyable and entertaining. For those who want to relish the natural beauty of the valley, nature walks and cultural demonstrations are the perfect activity. Waimea also has 36 gardens featuring more than 6,000 species of some of the rarest and most beautiful plant life in the world. A hands on demonstration of lei-making is especially interesting. These flower garlands have cutural and spirtitual significants to the Hawaiian people.

For the active visitor, there are all-terrain vehicle trail rides. These rides are often muddy, but the experience of blazing along a tropical rainforest trail will stay with you for a long time. Kayaking is also available. The adjacent Waimea River is the setting, and the cool mountain fed waters and lush scenery is the backdrop for this experience. aren't afraid of getting muddy, and have afor those who are be both entertaining and enjoyable for everyone in the family.
