Just across Kalakaua Avenue from the Zoo, there is the Waikiki Aquarium. There are displays of Hawaii's various marine ecosystems, reef fish and several endangered Hawaiian monk seals that dominate this small facility. The admission is quite reasonable at $7.00 for adults and children under 12 are free.
For those who think the wonderful waters of Waikiki beach are just not enough for fun, there is Hawaii's newest attraction, Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. This water park offers packages that include transportation to and from Waikiki hotels and admission. This water park has all the chutes, slides and half pipes that can easily keep even the most energetic of kids interested for hours on end. The fees are typical of any other water park in the country, but one can save a few dollars by packing a lunch instead of leaving yourself victim to the park's overpriced snack bar.
If you think that evening events are for those strictly 21 years and over, think again. The 5:00 pm seating for the Magic of Polynesia is a favorite of families. John Hirokawa puts on a show worthy of the hefty fee. Spectacular special effects, a Hawaiian theme and high-quality illusions make this show highly recommended.
The best thing about Waikiki is, that if all you care to do is lounge on the beach with the rug rats at your feet in the sand, that is always free. So, the next time you get in the family vacation mode, be sure to book a Waikiki condo, a kitchenette unit or adjoining rooms, pack the kids up and head for Waikiki!
