WAIKIKI HOOLAULEA (ALOHA FESTIVALS EVENT) Date: September 22 Place: Kalakaua Avenue The Waikiki Hoolaulea is Hawaii's largest block party. Held each year, the Hoolaulea features dancing and entertainment by Hawaii's brightest stars, a variety of ethnic foods and beautiful leis.
HAWAII HULA 2000 Date: September 17 Time: 6:00 p.m. Place: Waikiki Beach Imagine Waikiki Beach lined with hundreds of brightly colored hula dancers swaying elegantly as the sunsets.
BANKOH NA WAHINE O KE KAI CANOE RACE Date: September 24 Time: 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Place: Hale O Lono, Molokai to Duke Kahanamoku Beach Park in Waikiki Women's 40.8-mile Molokai-to-Oahu championship six-person outrigger canoe race. Over 65, 10- to 12- women teams of the best female outrigger canoe paddlers in the world compete for the championship title. Competitors come from Australia, New Zealand, Mainland United States, Canada, Tahiti and other countries. Traditionally, the Aloha Festivals Court is waiting to formally welcome the finishers when they arrive at the beach on Oahu. Spectators gather on the beach to watch the pageantry at the finish.
ALOHA FESTIVALS OPENING CEREMONIES Date: September 15 Time: 12 Noon Place: Iolani Palace, Honolulu Marks the official beginning of the 2000 Aloha Festivals on Oahu. Traditional hula and chants introduce the Royal Court.
DOWNTOWN HOOLAULEA (ALOHA FESTIVALS EVENT) Date: September 15 Place: Downtown Honolulu along Bishop Street One of the best attended and most enjoyed events in Honolulu. An estimated 150,000 Residents and visitors stroll through downtown Honolulu enjoying the various lei and food booths and exciting dancing and entertainment on different stages featuring music to suit every taste.
ALOHA FESTIVALS ROYAL BALL Date: September 9 Time: 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Place: Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, Waikiki This elegant, formal dinner/dance is the grand finale event of Aloha Festivals, Hawaii's statewide celebration of aloha. The 2000 Aloha Festivals reigning monarchs dress in their Victorian finest and serve as guests of honor. Featuring Hawaiian entertainment and dance music. $75 per person
