Lanai - different from all the rest

Prior to it's plantation beginnings, Lanai was for the most part uninhabited. Since then it has been known as the "Pineapple Island" for nearly 70 years until the plantations were phased out in 1993. Lanai has taken to a new direction. Now, Lanai has two exclusive, world-class hotels, the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel. In addition, the Experience at Koele and the Challenge at Manele provide visitors with award winning, world-class golf. Lanai has no fast food, no stop lights, no high-rises and no public transportation. Lanai is a quiet island of simple people. It's a place where knowing where everyone lives and waving to passing drivers and is commonplace.Lanai is officially represented by the color orange and the Kaunaoa flower.

The fourth youngest in the Hawaiian archipelago, the Island of Lanai i s located just 35 minutes by air from Honolulu and 25 from Maui. It has an area of approximately 141 square miles with 47 miles of coastline which makes it the sixth largest island in the Hawaiian Chain.

Lanai has a total population of 2,800 people. The population is very multi-cultural. The majority are comprised of Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian, Caucasian, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino origins. Lanai is also the destination for over 100,000 visitors annually.
