The Hawaiian Regent - A Review

The Hawaiian Regent has been one of my favorite Waikiki's hotels for many years. This hotel has the style of the Hyatt with a bit more relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The facility is modern with pools and waterfalls throughout. This hotel is well run and the facilities are casually elegant with all the amenities of any luxury "chain" hotel

The hotel consists of 12 elevators, 24-hour security and 1346 air-conditioned rooms in two 32 and 33 story towers. The hotel spans one entire block between Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues making it a rather large complex to enjoy and stroll around in. There are two wonderful fresh water swimming pools. Also you'll find a fitness room, tennis court and a very well outfitted and staffed business center. On the first level of the complex you will find a gallery of shops. There are boutiques, resort wear, sporting equipment a sundry store, shoes and souvenirs shops. Also on the first floor you will find a travel and tour desk as well as car rental offices and a concierge.

The front of the hotel faces Kalakaua Avenue and the rear of the hotel is along Kuhio Avenue. There are the two major thoroughfares in Waikiki. The Hawaiian Regent is within quick walking distance to many attractions such as the Waikiki Shell, Kapiolani Park, the Waikiki Aquarium, the Honolulu Zoo and Kodak Hula Show. The city stops along the Kuhio Avenue entrance of the hotel. The bus service is frequent, safe, inexpensive and convenient to Ala Moana Shopping Center and all points on Oahu.

There are several restaurants at the Regent. The Summery features all day dining and is a favorite local spot for weekend buffets buffets. Cafe Regent's menu features light morning meals in an open air setting. Acqua is open for dinner only. The menu offers an interesting blend of Mediterranean and Pacific Rim flavors. Classified as Neo-Pacific , this restaurant is truly a unique experience. The Lobby Bar is also a favorite of many locals since some of the finest genuine Hawaiian music is scheduled to perform in the early evenings. There are many fun and light-hearted surprises when residents gather for fun and music. Who knows maybe you'll make some lifetime local friends!

There are also many lounges and restaurants along the side streets adjacent to the hotel. These restaurants include Denny's, and Cheeseburger in Paradise, a popular hamburger theme restaurant.

Guest rooms are located in two towers, the Kalakaua and the Kuhio. All are air-conditioned and have private balconies and daily maid service. All rooms are equipped with remote color cable TV, clock/radio, mini-fridge and in-room safe. The best rooms are the oceanfront category in the Kalakaua tower. These rooms offer beautiful views of Waikiki Beach, Kalakaua Avenue and wonderful Hawaii sunsets. The balconies are large enough to sit, relax and enjoy the views or a meal.
