Ghost Hunting on the Web

We've all watched Ghostbusters (and if you haven't you should) and we all enjoyed the movie to some degree. Little do most people know, there are real ghost hunters out there, sure they don't hold ghosts in traps and where funny uniforms, but they are out there. If you don't know where to find one in your area, just go to your favorite internet browser and search for "ghost hunter."

Ghost hunters are numerous on the internet, some are strictly not for profit organization that are just looking for either their own purposes or for scientific research. Some ask for money in return for your ability to browse their photographs. Some are even famous. You may not have heard of them, but they are famous in their circles.

One such group comes to mind as I write this, a husband and wife team, who at one point in time-the seventies-were probably very well known. I can say their names for you, the Warrens, but you may not recognize the name. The name best associated with this team is "Amytiville." Ring a bell?

There are many people who claim the Warrens were fraudulant in their research, and others who take it at face value, not to mention the Warrens themselves. The Warrens have their own site along with the rest of the world, but their information on the hauntings they have researched are sketchy at best, and very well written short stories at worst. If you are interested in the Amytiville cases, I have added a few links to other pages about the story as well.

Most websites I have looked into about the researchers of various organizations are very well laid out and quite interesting. I even found one in my own hometown, which quite blew my mind. There are clubs on Yahoo! that you can join and share experiences with other people about your hauntings, and a few of these are ran by some of the amateur researchers. (Only meaning that they have regular jobs as well.)

My next article will have an interview (hopefully) with one such researcher, and we'll get to learn all about the wonderful devices and equipment researchers use. So stay tuned!
