Chip Chip Hooray snags $360,000 Valley Victory

Chip Chip Hooray survived an objection in the $360,000 Valley Victory on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

Eric Ledford tipped Chip Chip Hooray ($9.60, $6.00, $3.00) out of the pocket behind pacesetter Holiday Fest and drew off to a three length victory in the Valley Victory for two-year-old trotting colts, the fifth race. The judges rejected the claim of driver-trainer Jan Johnson, behind Magnetic Power (fourth place), who lodged an objection, claiming that he was interfered with at the top of the stretch by Chip Chip Hooray.

Longshot Miracle Lane ($18.40, $5.80) closed for second and it was three and a half lengths to 4-5 favorite Holiday Fest ($2.60) in third.

"He's done everything we've asked this year, he's never disappointed us this year," said Ledford of the Pine Chip colt's season of eight wins, two seconds and one third in 12 starts. "This was Chuck's (trainer Chuck Sylvester) Breeders Crown for this horse as he elected not to go in the Breeders Crown with him. We definitely were going to go down swinging. I was comfortable (sitting in the two hole), this horse has such an eighth of a mile in him. The horse is so fast and so quick, he can sprint with anyone."

Chip Chip Hooray, owned by trainer Chuck Sylvester and Neal Goldman of Washington Township, New Jersey, trotted the mile in 1:57 flat.

"We left the shoes on tonight," Sylvester noted. "In his last six starts, we raced him without his shoes but he didn't handle it well last week so I elected to keep them on. He relaxes and when you want him to go, he goes."
