A word leading to a phrase creates a pictorial image in one readers mind. Mr. Sutton reveals many selves in his book of poetry with a short story adding a different flare. The Soul Rebuttals is broken up in three parts allowing the reader to enter the three entities existence that makes up the physical being of Pierre. It is the combination of each entity expressing itself to take center stage of their posed objective, hence, within the first beginning pages, Pierre breaks down the definition of Soul and Rebuttal – providing you a somewhat explanation to the purpose of this collaboration.

For instance, the first series of chapters we are exposed to P.E.T.E.Y, in which, I really loved quite a few of his poems on life. “The Elevation” poem, not only hit home, but it provided me a sense of understanding of his elevation in the journey of life and self. In the last few passages he writes, “Realizing that the greatest power is that of forgiveness” – Elevation.

“Not being afraid to break free” – Elevation. “Not being afraid to become me”– Maturity. I enjoyed the 27 steps he took to reach the final conclusion. It encourages you to look within your soul and obtain understanding to the purpose of living.

In the second personality expressed in Pierre’s book, called P’Danzig, a darker version of the entity is exposed. The writings are somewhat up front and in your face. A complete turn from what you experienced reading P.E.T.E.Y’s journals. But nonetheless, it provides insight to the darker side in ones personality. Many of the poems didn’t spark any enthusiasm or feeling of the true purpose.

It was just raw. I personally could not grasp and hold on to it for enjoyment. I felt it was too overtly overdone – in the purpose to showcase one self, it exposed a more in your face approach. Especially, the “Domestic Violence” that showed no theme, no uniqueness to this subject, just rawness, hence, a pissed off, angry, and negative person.

The final personality, the physical being, Pierre, elevates you to a new understanding of how he views the world - how he feels towards his family, a special someone, and life. You can see this illustrated in his poem of “The 3rd Wonder of the World” he used anecdotes and history to conjure his vision of the third wonder of the world – which is what he feels he will be remembered by others.
