In Memory Of; The Souls of Black Folk: 1 of 5 Series


time has such a clear understanding of the status of racial relationship in America? W.E.B. Du Bois gazed deeply into his crystal ball and prophesized a 100 year struggle, in which, has been unable to adapt to changing times, in his essay "Of the Sons of Master and Man", his insightfulness rings so true at every turn.

My mind is still boggled by the deep insight Du Bois displayed in analyzing "Black" crime. Somehow our minds have been poisoned to believe this is a new age phenomenon that only recently became an issue over the last twenty years. We have allowed ourselves to be socially and psychologically brain washed to believe that black crime is a product of our own degradation. 100 years ago, W.E.B Du Bois, a man of deep passionate wisdom, saw that you could not choose a handful of issues and clearly define the condition of interpersonal and racial interactions in America.

The last of this series of review of my past articles, is the one that set off the true meaning of the past century; freedom. Du Bois states boldly the true creators and the benefactors of restriction in this county. Du Bois provides a deep look into the Freedman's Bureau and how it affected the masses during its glory years. Mr. Owen and I developed an effective presentation to present the history, the purpose, and finally the outcome.

Of The Dawn Of Freedom

Careless seems the great Avenger; History's lessons but recorded One death-grapple in the darkness "Twixt old systems and the Word; Truth forever on the scaffold, Wrong forever on the throne; Yet that scaffold sways the future, And behind the dim unknown Standeth God within the shadow Keeping watch above His own. - LOWELL.


W.E.B. Du Bois uses these prophetic words to set the stage for a brilliant analysis of a little known piece of American History:

"It is the aim of this essay to study the period of history from 1861 to 1872 so far as it relates to the American Negro. In effect, this tale of the dawn of Freedom is an account of that government of men called the Freedmen's Bureau, - one of the most singular and interesting of the attempts made by a great nation to grapple with vast problems of race and social condition"-W.E.B.
