Disciple :: "By God"

Disciple returns with their third full-length LP on growing Rugged Records with By God, nineteen track monster.

In comparison to This Might Sting a Little, things aren't much different. The rhythms are basically the same, with the same time signatures, styles, and influences. They continue to offer their freely spoken Christian beliefs. The only true difference between By God and This Might Sting a Little is that Travis Wyrick, phenomanal one-man-band of Wyrick, had a hand in its production.

By God, much like This Might Sting a Little has some strong tracks intertwined amongst the mediocre. The title and first track, "By God," "God of Elijah," "Knocked Down," "Can't Breathe," and "You are Here" are amongst the strongest tracks.

As with TMSAL, By God comes with a second disk that features three songs from the full-length: "By God," "Not Rock Stars," and "Rich Man." This is handy for dispensing to a friend who has no idea of God but might enjoy the music (and get a lesson in life simultaneously). Most of the lyrics in the booklet also have a story as to why or how they were written, giving some insight into Kevin Young's (bass & vocals) inspirations.

There's not much else to be said about the album that hasn't already been said about This Might Sting a Little. It's packed with Sevendust-esque rhythms, thrash-metal breaks, and positive but not altogether poetic lyrics. Think Third Day for the metal fan. Hardcore fans of This Might Sting a Little will find much to appreciate here, but those who didn't care much for their second LP won't feel any differently about By God.
