Society's Finest :: "The Journey . . . So Far"The kingdom of Jesus Christ is vast. Within it there are many townships. Somewhere between the lands of Living Sacrifice and pre-Sean Embodyment is a recently built village called Society’s Finest. Quickly pack your bags and move in. This debut CD on Solid State Records from Society’s Finest is nothing to be reckoned with. With absolutely brutal lyrics, perpetual percussion hemorrhaging, and guitar and bass riffs that leave you dizzy, this is one of the best albums to hit the metal scene, Christian or otherwise, since Living Sacrifice’s Reborn. Beginning with “1995,” the first track, all the way through to the tenth and final “Dead People,” the barrage never stops or even lets up. If you headbang to heavy music, you are sure to feel and look something like Igor when it is over, one eye bulging out of place and a hump that switches from shoulder to shoulder when one desires it to (and it’s pronounced Frankensteen.) While they may not be so discernable just by listening, the lyrics on this album are rather beautiful, telling of lost loves who fled into the night and other dark, atmospheric tales. Fans of Embodyment’s Embrace the Eternal major Christian label debut shouldn’t hesitate buying Society’s Finest. You will forever want to live in this township of the Kingdom of Christ. I assure you. Rock on.
