'Tis the Season to be Sexy

The holiday season brings us into contact with many people, including family, friends, and colleagues. With all the hustle and bustle of the season, you want to look your best, because you never know who you'll run into. This is a joyous season, and who can be joyful with a tired and unflattering style? Now is the time to make that change, and show off your sophisticated yet care-free sense of style to your friends and neighbors. This month's article couldn't have been produced without the help of the good people at Thermasilk, who have provided me with some great ideas for this month's feature (Thanks Carrie!).

According to a recent survey conducted by Thermasilk, 56% of the women surveyed revealed that they prefer to currently wear their hair either "super curly", "loose and wavy", or with "a little bit of bounce at the ends". Even more interesting is the fact that only 10% of the women polled prefer to sport "stick straight" styles. It is official: girls with curls rule! Time to put away your straightening balms and toss out your smoothing serums...the women have spoken and they want their curls.

Celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Melina Kanakaredes (from NBC's "Providence") have shown women everywhere that curls are THE fashion accessory to have this season. Acknowledging this trend, Thermasilk has created Curl Defining Shampoo and Curl Defining Conditioner. This tandem of products is designed to be used with heat. Heat will help the product's moisturizers penetrate deep into the hairshaft. This is especially important in winter months, when harsh outdoor chills and dry indoor heat can render the hair frizzy. These products promise to hydrate the hair without weighing it down. Best of all, you don't need to make an appointment at your local hair salon, you can purchase these new products at most grocery and retail stores. Thirteen ounce bottles of Curl Defining Shampoo and Curl Defining Conditioner sell for just $3.99 a bottle.

But are these products as good as salon exclusive products that promise similar results? Luke O'Connor thinks so. Apart from tending to the trendy tresses of Debra Messing (of "Will & Grace"), Luke is also the owner of the LuKaRo salon in Beverly Hills. And believe me, you don't get to be a salon owner in Beverly Hills without knowing your stuff. Mr. O'Connor shares with us his tips for styling naturally curly hair:
