A popular misconception is that it takes alot of time, money, and effort to make a big change when it comes to hair. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is, there are many little things you can do to breathe life into an old hairstyle or to update an outdated look, that require a minimal amount of time and expense. Here are five of the easiest ways you can change your style.
Power of a Part: Parting the hair differently is the easiest and fastest way to transform a boring old 'do into something exciting and new. Try replacing a straight part with a zig-zag part. Instead of a center part, experiment with parting your hair on either side. Side parts have a slimming effect on the face and they also make fine hair appear fuller. The perfect side part should line up directly over the pupil of the eye. Straight center parts look best on straight, sleek styles. A precise center part adds sophistication to even the most basic cut. The Bang is the Thang: Bangs can make any hairstyle look new and different, and if you've been reluctant to take the plunge, there is no better time than now. Bangs are in, and they're being worn long and swept to the side. For the past several years, soft wispy bangs have been in vogue. Cutting bangs with a razor has now been replaced by cutting them jagged with scissors. Instead of the standard brow-length bangs, the popular look is slightly longer, with bangs cut to the bridge of the nose. Sideswept bangs are sexy because they are mysterious...they can partially obscure one eye and leave the other eye wide open. If you desire shorter bangs, ask your stylist to make them look "choppy", in other words, have them cut in varying lengths resulting in a jagged, playful look. The key is to make it look as if you had let your best friend cut your hair. My prediction for a few years down the road is full, heavy, straight bangs. It's the next logical step in it's evolution (perhanps it can be called the Big Bang Theory). In the 80's, the big hair decade, bangs were as prominent as the hood ornament on a 1950 Mercury Sedan. Bangs were teased more than a shy chubby kid on a third grade recess yard. After being sprayed with a half can of AquaNet, their heights rivaled that of the Sears Tower. Then for a few years in the 90's, bangs practically disapperead and were considered a fashion no-no. When bangs returned, they had evolved into the light wispy bangs that have been popular up until the end of the decade. The new millenium has seen an explosion in bang styles, ranging from Calista Flockhart's micro-bangs (hideous), to the longer bangs that are worn swept to the side by every current Hollywood starlet. The next phase of the evolution should be thicker, heavier, straighter bangs; a complete departure from the texturized choppy bangs that we've been seeing since the early 90's.
