First Annual Editor's Choice Haircare Awards

Welcome, dear reader, to my first-ever haircare awards, where I select the best of all the haircare products. I've spent the last year reviewing hundreds of products, from major-label manufacturers to smaller, lesser-known companies. I have used each of these products extensively, both on actual salon clients and on my own hair. It's all here, from hairsprays to shampoos to pomades. This is an award show like no other (considering there aren't any actual awards to give out, nor is this an actual award show). To give it an authentic awards show feel, I've even gone out and rented an Armani tuxedo....okay, I lied, I'm sitting here in khakis and a sweatshirt...but at least I've placed the winners' names in nice little envelopes. Okay, I lied about that too. Well, one thing that is no lie is that these products are the best of the best. On with the show!

Best Product Line: Nexxus. There were many manufactures to choose from, but I had to choose Nexxus because of their consistent quality and complete line of shampoos, conditioners, and styling products.

Best New Product: Back-to-Basics Ginger Therapy Masque. A must-have conditioning treatment for chemically stressed hair.

Best Finishing Spray: Sebastian Shaper Plus. No wonder this is the best-selling professional hairspray of all time.

Best Gel: HeadGames Power Hungry. A firm hold gel for all occasions and for any style.

Best Mousse: Matrix Amplify Volumizing Foam. No other mousse adds as much volume.

Best Product for Color-Treated Hair: Goldwell Shampoo for Color and Highlights.

Best Product for Permed Hair: Nexxus Rejuv-a-Perm curl rejuvinator. A leave-in treatment that extends the life of your perm.

Best Straightening Product: Flat-Out by KMS.

Best Shampoo: Nexxus Botanoil. Great for colored, permed, or normal hair.

Best Conditioner: Nexxus Humectress. An absolute classic. It's been around forever because it works like no other.

Best Hair-Thickening Shampoo: Nexxus VitaTress.

Best Leave-In Conditioner: Instacure by Matrix. A great detangler as well.

Best Men's Product: American Crew Thickening Shampoo

Best Pomade/Wax: Bumble and Bumble Sumo Wax. A little expensive, but worth every penny.

Best Styling Product: ICE Spiker. Regular readers of this column know how much I rave about this prodoct. Great for short and spiky styles.

Best Smelling Product: Bedhead Mastermind by TIGI. A styling paste with a mouth-watering citrus aroma. Nearly good enough to eat.

Best Permanent Haircolor: Goldwell Topchic. Amazing gray coverage, luscious browns, sexy blondes, and vibrant reds. Leaves hair healthy and shiny.
