Men's Grooming TipsBeauty salons have long been a traditional gathering place for women. The ladies from around the neighborhood used to sit under their hairdryers and gossip, while the men went to their old-fashioned barber shops for a haircut and a shave. Men avoided beauty parlors the way a Catholic nun avoided adult video stores. It was just not proper for a man to go to the salon. Alot has changed in the past twenty years. Men now comprise a large percentage of a salon's clientele, and many products are now available exclusively for use by men. Men's grooming reaches far beyond hair; there are considerations such as sideburns, mustaches, eyebrows, and even nose hair. Men are just as image-conscious as women, regardless of what they may say. A man may not have the looks of a Hollywood heartthrob, but if he is well-groomed, it presents an image of confidence that many women find irresistable. It is best, I suppose, to start with hair. Men need their hair trimmed more frequently than women. I wouldn't recommend putting a cut off past four weeks. Once a month is a general rule. A well-groomed man will never let his hair grow to touch his collar (although newer trends lean towards longer men's styles). If you were ever in the military or attended a private school, you probably have a good idea of what it takes to be well-groomed. Men's hair can be shampooed daily, and should be conditioned as needed. Some of the best men's products are made by American Crew. They have a complete line of shampoos, conditioners, and styling products made exclusively for men. Men who have thinning hair or a visible balding area are wise to wear their hair very short. This may seen contradictory, but shorter hair will downplay baldness. A great example of this is Andre Agassi. From a distance his head may appear shaved, but a closer look reveals that it is clippered extremely short. Cal Ripken is another example. These men have less hair than many other men the same age, yet no one has ever accused either of these men as looking ungroomed. No way. I think it is a good idea for all men to use some type of styling product, whether it's a gel, mousse, or pomade. A good gel is sufficient for most hair types, I prefer Gelous Rage by Montage (made by Graham Webb), or Versastyler liquid gel by Nexxus. If you prefer pomades, try American Crew's Fiber. If you like to use hairspray, almost any will do as long as they're not too perfumed. Alot of men prefer Paul Mitchell hair spray.
