New Product Reviews

It seems like just yesterday that I wrote a new product review article. It can be confusing trying to keep track of all the new products. In reality, there aren't many things that can be considered "new". Most haircare products can be divided into four basic categories: shampoos, conditioners, styling products (such as gel and mousse), and finishing products (such as hairspray and pomade). Just about every new product will fall into one of these categories.

I like the first product because it doesn't quite fit into any other category. KMS Color Vitality Solar Power Highlighter is a gel that will gradually lighten hair without any brassiness when exposed to sunlight. Don't expect a dramatic amount of lightening, however. This product will give you subtle highlights.

L'anza recently introduced a line of products aimed at clients with long hair. L'anza's Long Hair Formula products protect hair from potential sun damage, color fading, and dryness. The line consists of a shampoo, conditioner, Strengthen (a volumizer), and ProtecShine, which seals the cuticle and smoothes the hairstrand.

Sexy Hair Concepts launched their latest line, Healthy Sexy Hair, which is the industry's first line of soy-based haircare products. If you like tofu, you'll love SoyMilk shampoo, SoyMilk conditioner, Soy Tri-Wheat leave-in conditioner, Soy Smoothie Straightening Tonic and Soy Paste Texture Pomade. I guess this can be considered health food for the hair.

My favorite product of all time, ICE Spiker Styling Glue (manufactured by Joico), is now available in six colors. Now in addition to providing incredible hold, Spiker now comes in green, blue, gold, black, violet, and brown. Ideal for younger clients who want to experiment with a non-permanent haircolor. I really love ICE products, and I give them great reviews. Those guys at Joico really know their stuff. And hey, if there's anyone from Joico reading this, I'd love to work for you guys....after all, I do promote ICE products frequently.

Goldwell's Trendline products have been creating alot of buzz around the salon, and for good reason. I can't say I've ever been disappointed by a Goldwell product. That is, until now. While most of the Trendline products are great, Matt Wax leaves a little to be desired. Matt Wax is gray in color, and can be quite messy until you get used to working with it. Too much product can make the hair gray, as well as turn your hands gray. This, in turn, will instinctively cause you wipe your hands on your clothes, making them gray. It took me a few tries to get used to the Matt Wax. You only have to use a small amount, or else you might end up making a mess like I did. Matt Wax does produce a nice effect on the hair when it is applied correctly, though.
