Styling Tricks and Tips4. Go easy on the products. Too much of anything, no matter how "weightless" the product claims to be, will make hair flat and appear greasy or flaky. The only things that should appear greasy and flaky are McDonald's Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuits and Elvis impersonators. Tips for making your hair do what you tell it to do (unlike tips for making your husband do what you tell it to do...an article that remains to be written): 1. Do you find the ends of your hair flipping out in all directions after you curl it? With one hand, pick up the unruly strands of hair, holding it off your face or away from your head. Using your other hand, take a medium-tooth comb and lightly comb the last 1/2-1 inch of your ends in the direction you want it to go. After you get it moving in the right direction, gently release the hair and it should fall right into place. 2. Get a trim. If your style tends to flop, you either need to make the hair shorter or use a larger size roller, brush, or iron. For maximun control and volume, the hair should be long enough that it rolls one time around the barrel of your styling tool. 3. Go with the flow. As with many things in life, you get much further using teamwork. If your hair wants to go to the left, and you want it to go to the right, then you're going to end up having a bad hair day. Blowdry, curl, style, and set the hair in the direction it tends to go naturally. Your life will be much easier. 4. Use the right products. Many people use mousse and wonder why they can't make their hair spiky. Many people use pomade and wonder why it won't give them firm hold. Many people use a firm hold spray and wonder why they can't run a comb through their hair. Use the right tool for the job. Don't be afraid to ask the hairstylist for suggestion with products. They'll be more than happy to sell you something, especially if they get paid on commission. As a famous pig once said, "That's all folks." Keep checking back every month for more tips and tricks that will save you time, trouble, and money.
