Last month, I attended a wonderful seminar, featuring my favorite author, Elizabeth George. Reading her first book, Loving God with All Your Mind, inspired me at the beginning of my writing career. She inspired me to have faith that I, too, could publish books. Now, five years later, I have three books out, The OCD Workbook, The Habit Change Workbook, and The BDD Workbook, and two more coming out next year.

The seminar was just as inspiring. Each session was based on a book. The first, my favorite, Loving God with All Your Mind, is all about thinking and believing the Truth, not believing the lies we all tend to tell ourselves.

In the second session, based on A Woman's High Calling, Ms. George shared with us 10 essentials to being a godly woman. As a writer, she helped me focus my career. Perhaps it could help us all bring focus to our lives. She shared with us the question she asks herself every year, "If I were to die in the next six months, what would I want to share with other women?" That would be her next book.

The last session was based on Ms. George's book, A Woman After God's Own Heart. Notice all her books have "God" in the title? They have deep spiritual meaning, but beyond the spiritual message, they are filled with practical advice that can inspire even the least spiritual among us to action. This session and book is the inspiration for this article. I am applying the principles on three levels: the spiritual level Ms. George spoke of; my personal life; and my career. There was more to her presentation, and the book would surely fill in the blanks for you. And as I've done here, give you further principles you can add to your habit change tools and skills.

Ms. George spoke of bringing focus to our spiritual growth. She suggested starting "5 Fact Files." Label five large envelopes - or boxes - with five category headings (prayer, faith, endurance, love, purpose, for example). These are areas you will increase your expertise; you will purposely seek knowledge so you can help others with your collection of information and wisdom. You can do this in other areas of your life, also. I'm doing it in my writing career. Instead of envelopes or boxes, you could use computer files and fill them with Internet articles.
