Passover: A Time of RedemptionOn the first night(s) of Passover we have a special meal and read from what is called the Haggadah. This event is called the the Seder. It is when we review, delve and pass on to our children the events of G-d’s redeeming us from Egypt. If someone came today and said that America won the Revolutionary War since angels came and fought for them, bringing upon the British army plagues, etc. no one would accept it since why did we not hear of these events until today? Likewise how would the Jewish people accept a Torah that said our nation was redeemed from Egypt with ten miraculous plagues if this would not have happened? This is one of the many proofs of the validity of the Torah. We have been passing these events yearly to our children from the time they occurred until today- over 3,300 years later. In our daily prayers we have two blessings where we mention redemption. Each One, though, is in a different tense. In one we say G-d is the One who redeemed Israel. This is referring to G-d having redeemed us from Egypt. We also say that G-d is the Redeemer of Israel. This is referring to every generation and to every individual in their time of need. It is G-d and G-d alone who is the one who is constantly redeeming us.
