Learning from Those Whom Have Achieved
We started to discuss last time about peace of mind and how to achieve this most important ideal.

In order to learn about peace of mind we need to study the subject from those whom achieved it. Among the great men of our nation throughout the ages there are countless of prominent names we know about and others we don't know about from whom we can learn. For our short study here, though, we will suffice with a few insights that we can use to move closer to peace of mind.

The "Alter of Navorodok" Rav Yosef Horowitz of blessed memory, was the founder of the Navorodok Yeshiva. His Yeshiva was established before World War I and has been around ever since. He wrote a momentous work, which translated means, the "Levels of Man." This masterpiece is a handbook of insight into understanding ourselves and how to grow and develop. He writes there the following pearl of wisdom on how to attain peace of mind within our lives:

How Would You Stop Water From Dripping On You?
If water is dripping on a person's clothes, will just wiping away the water which falls stop the problem? No, you need to turn off the faucet from which the water is leaking. Likewise we need to close the source of our lack of tranquility. He writes at length to explain that the source of our worries in life is our wants and desires. I am not saying this is easy, and I am still far form this, but the more we can apply this lesson the more we will understand its truth.

Our Wants= Needs= Worries
We have so many wants in this world that we are constantly finding new things we need and have to have. We need the latest styles and the newest updates. Our car is always outdated as well as our computers. Advertisements remind us of all that we are lacking or must have. The more wedesure the more we need and want. Then this requires that we we have to earn more money. This requires more and more worry about our financial status and about satisfying our wants and desires. The more gadgets we have the more problems we face if something does not work. I am not saying in today's world we do not need, so to say, many of today's products which our grandparents and great-grandparents never dreamed of. I am saying that our wants and desires and ruling over us with a constant nagging.
