The World is Traumatized. I concluded last time that we still need to discuss how to live with Torah and Judaism as a way of life. But Two weeks we could not imagine the world would change in such a drastic way, as the whole world was witness to. The whole world was together traumatized viewing how far the force of evil in this world is willing to go. An act most civilized human beings could not dream of ever happening in such a manner in a time of peace.

I grew up in NY and although I have been living in Israel many years and know what terrorism is about, as all those living in Israel, but this especially hit home. Personally I feel there are many many lessons and aspects that could be discussed about what we all have seen heard and read about. I feel it would be an injustice not to spend a moment, at least, to ponder upon our lives in view of what has happened and in view of the upcoming battles ahead.

What is Yom Kippur. On the tenth day of Tishre, which this year is September 27 2001, is Yom Kippur. This is the most sacred day of the year. We fast for about 24 hours and are not allowed to wash or wear leather shoes among other laws. This is a day where G_D gives a special chance to repent and change our lives and ourselves. Our penitence is more readily accepted this day than the rest of the year.

Evil is not Here Forever. One way to view this is similar to what I wrote a few weeks ago about the bombing of a restaurant in Jerusalem in the article-"How to Understand what is Happening and Foundations of Existence".

Now I want to focus on another point of the force of evil in this world. The Prophets in our scriptures tell us that there will be a time when G_D will eradicate all evil from the world. As the Sages of the Talmud put it G_D will slaughter the force of evil before the righteous and before the evil.

When is this going to take place? After the coming of the true Messiah the world will start undergoing changes never before known to man except to Adam and Eve before the sin. The soul will shine forth and the body will become purer and purer over time. The Third Temple will be rebuilt by G_D and eventually the dead (those meriting) will be resurrected. These are basic foundations in Judaism.
