Who and Where am I?


From this he learned that the treasure was always within his grasp in his own home, under his nose without his even realizing it. The notable Rav Bunim, one of the early Chasidic leaders would use this story to explain what it is that a person who travels to a righteous sage for counsel should expect to find. When setting out to seek the counsel and guidance of the Righteous, know that the fortune lies in your own house. Within you lie the answers and the necessary resources. First you must do a thorough inspection, though, as far as the hand can reach. So, in reality, when a person, as he was discussing, travels to the righteous sage to seek counsel, the sage in reality is going to assist the person to understand what he/she has within him or herself already. Just like I can't be someone that I am not, I can't find myself in a place where I am not. Outside of myself I can't be, so why should I look there? In the last article, we discussed the first step in coming to finding one's mission and path in life. The first step we said is first to discover within him or herself what are the positive and strong points which already exist within. What are my good traits, as these are the tools with which I can change and move ahead while finding and striving in the right path for me individual? For example, if someone finds within him or herself a trait of being truthful, this is a strong point. This can be used as a tool in many areas to help the person reach his or her goals. Another example would be if the person is faced with a decision that may have a large or small effect on that person's life, and there are two paths from which to choose. One is more appealing and comfortable while the other, has some obstacles to overcome and some inconveniences, but really it is the correct and right path to follow.
