Self-Coaching to Motivation

© Baruch Weiner

The idea of self-coaching is that whether or not you have a personal coach you can live in a motivated life as if you have the coach with you constantly. Imagine having someone there to motivate you and to encourage you and cheer you on, how would it feel? If done in the proper way I bet you would increase you productivity many times. You would feel happier and be able to concentrate on your goals and placing your effort where it can be most productive. But we do not have this so what can we do? We can start by supporting encouraging and motivating ourselves. Not so easy I know since if it would we would all be doing and would not be reading this (smile).

What motivates you? Do you know? One way to find out is to monitor your conversations. What topic do you speak about the most? What topic do you end up speaking about despite the topic that was started? Many times that is an indicator of your true interests. True you may find your topic is always about your hobby or something you enjoy but not a source of motivation for your daily routine and job. But on the other hand this is one way to come to learn about yourself and maybe use that information as a guide.

This is not something a person needs to dedicate a lot of time to. Just it requires a bit of openness and honesty to be aware of what you are feeling and thinking. As the day goes on if you just can step back for a minute here and there and observe what is already there you will be surprised at what you can uncover if you are willing to see it.

The point is not to be self-critical but to have the tools to grow with and to change. Even if you find a negative trait that also is a personal guide to assist you in your life. It reveals where your weak points are and where you need to improve and which areas to focus on. What can you do with this information once you start to find it? You can, for one, start to live with it. You can start to see yourself in another light or from a different angle. If for example you find that you are always talking or thinking about a certain topic like money so that is important information about yourself.
