A passionate Plea Against “The Passion”
The Passion
There has been in the news recently something that I found very disturbing. A famous movie actor and director Mel Gibson is producing what is becoming a very controversial movie, It is a movie about the last 12 hours of the life of jesus "J". It is called "The Passion". It is supposed to be very graphic and emotionally intense. The problem that has been raised, not only Jews but also by Christians, is the way Jews are portrayed in the movie.
I am including a link here to the movie trailer so you can see it for yourself. A word of warning, though, it is graphic so use your discretion.

Words of the Critics
I quote what some critics have said as quoted in CNN on August 1, 2003-
"But critics of "The Passion" -- who have not seen the film -- worry that the popular Hollywood superstar will attract millions to see a violent, bloody recounting of the crucifixion that portrays Jews as a frenzied mob eager to watch Jesus die.
Face The Facts
CNN had a link to a movie trailer of the movie. Although I do not usually have an interest in searching out movie trailers this one I was sure to follow up on. The short trailer really gives the impression of a very graphic and highly emotional movie. I dread to think of what can happen after such a movie.
Although the producers are claiming to be creating what they think is a historical film with no intention to arouse anti-Semitism that does not change the facts. When you have mass amounts of people seeing such a graphically moving film involving Jews being responsible for killing their so called savior what kind of reaction can you suspect when they meet Jews in the street or any other place?
The Makings of a Pogrom
How were pogroms started in Eastern Europe? In many cases it was started by an emotionally arousing speech often by the local Priest against the "Christ Killers" as they called teh Jews.
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
The saying goes a picture is worth thousand words. What potential Hell can be unleashed by such a graphic display of "J" being crucified is not within anyone's ability to take responsibility for. If one person is hurt as a result of this film is that justifiable? If the film is a success and shown world over can anyone predict what reaction there will be towards the Jews whom still have serious problems in many places.
