Your Greyhound and Estate Planning

Happy Tails in Tucson, Arizona, states they can help you custom design an action plan for the care of your pets in the event of your sudden illness, accident, hospitalization, or death. Your pet(s) will be cared for with no lapse in care, and, in the event of death, will be placed according to your wishes.

The Elder Law Fax is a weekly publication that I found while searching for information on the Web. They have an article "Providing for Pets upon Death or Disability" on their site. It is dated August 26, 1996, but has some good information - so check this one out too.

Cinnamon Trust, a national charity which seeks to relieve the anxieties of elderly and terminally ill pet owners, is located in England. This is a truly remarkable organization. Please visit their site. Mrs. Averil Jarvis founded the Cinnamon Trust. She named the trust after her beloved Corgi, who died as she was establishing the charity. The Trust recognizes that pets need more than love. Dogs must be walked, cats fed and groomed, bird cages and aquariums cleaned. It has established a national network of volunteers that do all they can to keep the owners and their pets together for as long as possible. A national fostering service is provided for pets whose owners face a spell in hospital. Volunteers take pets into their own homes and supply love and care until they and their owners can be reunited. If the owner dies and has no provisions for the pets, Cinnamon Trust helps find a place for the animals.

I have learned so much from doing research on this article. This is a subject my husband and I have discussed, but have done nothing about. I have a cousin who has already made provisions for her dogs. I remember talking to her about what she was doing and thinking that I should do the same thing. I hope I have given all of you something to think about too!
