Christmas, 1997

Christmas 1997 has come and gone — gone into the memory banks of all past Christmases. There are several things I will remember from this Christmas. Two weeks before the 25th, Whitney and I met two other GPA/OK members at a nursing home in the outskirts of Tulsa. Julie had her greyhound Jack, dressed in his Christmas outfit, with her. Jack is a great hound who has an aversion to slick floors, so he must stay on the carpet in the entranceway and not venture into the halls! Janice had her two hounds, Blue and Simon, who were both dressed in their Christmas costumes. She also had one of her cats with her. P.K. (Pretty Kitty) is a very large, beautiful, long-haired cat, who wasn't too sure about going visiting. P.K. did remarkably well for a cat (you cat people will know what I mean!) He allowed some of the residents to pet him and he didn't get after the dogs once! Julie took some homemade Christmas cookies, which the residents really enjoyed. We ended our visit full of Christmas cheer. The men and women in the home who were without their beloved pets especially enjoy our visits.

Another memory I will think back on with fond thoughts was the Santa pictures that GPA/OK did along with the Tulsa SPCA group at several of our local Southern Agriculture stores. Being involved with this project is so much fun! People bring their pets (of all kinds) into the store and have their pictures taken with Santa. Some of our guys from GPA dress up in our Santa suit, which shows their spirit because the beard and wig are plenty hot! Sometimes I wonder what our animals really think about some of the things we have them do! What could be sillier in their eyes than having to sit still and look cute with an unknown person dressed in red? I must say that all the animals I saw did very well. Oh, some were awfully excited and did not see any need to be still and stay in one place! It reminded me of the commercial on TV that a film company had — the one where the Mom and Dad were trying to take a picture of a toddler and a dog! So all in all, this was a worthwhile project. We did make some money for our organization along with making some people happy with their pictures!
