Editor's note, added March 24,Thursday--
This article is now being dedicated to one of our older girls, LeeView. Lee passed over the bridge this morning. She came through her spay fine, but became sick several days later. She surely fought a good fight, but in the end it was just too much. She was fostered by Mark & Leslie Young and their daughter Cassie - she had wound her way into their hearts very quickly. We feel that for the short time she was with them, she had the happiest home and the most love of her life. To them we are very thankful.
Greyhound Pets of America/Oklahoma recently took into their adoption program 5 senior females between the ages of 10 and 12. The older Greyhound, as many of you already know, makes a exceptional pet. They are so appreciative of anything you do for them - soft beds, shelter from the weather, good food, and they really eat up the petting and loving! Unfortunately, for an adoption group, getting this many seniors at one time can be very difficult. First of all, these dogs are much harder to adopt; therefore, they freeze up foster homes for long periods of time. Also, the medical expenses can be devastating to an adoption group. These ladies that we took in will be cared for and loved as long as we have them, but those of you who work with adoption and canine rescue organizations will understand how hard this can be! Below is an email our President Cheryl Holmberg sent to Greyhound-L. Date: Tue, 23 Mar 1999 00:00:42 EST In Tulsa, OK there are 5 retired greyhound females between the ages of 10 and
12. We need help finding them pet homes. They all have had their shots,
worming, heartworm test. We spayed them all and did dental cleanings and
extractions. I know many of you would like one if you could or want to wish us good luck.
Thank you. But please respond privately to this email only if you want one of
these fine ladies. Cheryl A description of these sweet older Greys can be found on ABAP's section on Special Needs Dogs. Their pictures will be on GPA/OK's website within the next several days. I guess my reason for writing this article is twofold. First, I wish more people were aware of the wonderful pet an older Greyhound makes, and secondly, GPA/OK will adopt out of our area in this instance. So, if anyone is interested in one of these girls, please use Cheryl's email (above in her post) or feel free to email me at tomlinsn@ionet.net. Go To Page: 1 2
