Dealing With The Death of A Pet

© Judy A Tomlinson

This week's article is dedicated to Angel, a small, fawn Greyhound whom I have never met. I have met the family who was lucky enough to know her, and I know they loved her deeply. Angel was helped to cross the bridge on Saturday, September 6, 1998 after a long bout with cancer.

I wondered if people on the Internet were aware of the many sites that are created for the sole purpose of helping those who have lost a pet deal with their grief. I am listing many of these sites below, and there are many more.

This is for you Angel, and those who have gone before you and those who will go after you.

Greyhound Memorial Park. This is the newest Greyhound grief site. This site is exceptional one! The love that went into the making of this site is obvious. It has dedications to many Greyhounds. It also has Kristie Hett's story.

Choices, a story by Anne Mikita Kolaczyk

Prayers for Pets This site was born due to the efforts of a group from Greyhound-L.

Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Kids Cyndi Napolitan's Greyhound, Jack, is listed here, along with many other beloved pets.

Companions. Forever, Tulsa, Oklahoma. We in Tulsa are fortunate to have access to Companions Forever. I first learned about them when my cat, Ivory, died.

Grief, Loss and Recovery This site deals with all kinds of grief, not just animals

Lightening StrikeThis is a Pet-Loss Support Page

There is also a news group for pet loss - alt.support.grief.pet-loss

The Pet Loss Grief Support Website & Candle Ceremony

Portrait of an Angel. This site is in memory of a retired racing Greyhound named Misty Blue. Please read her story. Misty Blue

Jeff & Diane's Cat House. They have a wonderful memorial page.

From each of the sites mentioned, you can go to more sites on accepting grief. This has been one of the hardest articles I have written, and as you can see there was not much actual writing. But I visited all of these sites, and read story after story concerning people's pets and how they dealt with the grief of losing them. It has been a memorable morning.
