Bush and his Wacky WaysWhether this treaty becoming a law or not in the U.S., it is imperative that we reduce all greenhouse gasses as much as possible. The damage to the ozone is not speculation, it is a fact. The more emissions the more damage, and the quicker we turn this precious earth topsy-turvy. What else has come out of Bush’s actions? Well, he rescinded an administrative executive order from Clinton, that would reduce the level of arsenic allowed in drinking water. This is arsenic folks. Everyone knows that arsenic is poison and kills. Well, everyone knows this but maybe the guy in the Presidential office. I think he said that he wanted more studies. The level of arsenic the order calls for is the same level as the European Union and the World Health Organization. So are they wrong too, and arsenic in water is safe? This is a no-brainer, you would think. I could say something about Bush’s brain, but I won’t. The Clinton administration had been working hard on workplace injuries and finding ways of prevention. After several long years of study, a bill was written up. This would require companies that had several injuries of the same type to take action to prevent them. Bush decided it was okay to continue to put employees at risk and that the companies know best concerning employee health. (Did anyone watch Bill Moyers PBS special “Trade Secrets”?) I could go on with what Bush has been up to, but these are the low points. As a Green Party person I find Bush’s actions appalling. I thought there wasn’t much difference between Republicans and Democrats when it came to the environment, and maybe with most Republicans there isn’t a difference, but Bush is making Clinton seem like an environmentalist. (It hurts my fingers to type this.) I am very saddened at the prospects of the next four years. If Bush does all this in a few months, what will the next few years bring? I just hope that it will rally everyone up to a new fervor and that we’ll fight harder for the trees that are about to be cut down, and for the land about to be dug up for oil. Let’s also fight for our drinking water to be safe, with no chemicals or poisons in it. (*Appointed by the Supreme Court) For more
