You have been reading this topic for a while now and your pretty sure that there is little left that anyone can teach you about environmentally-friendly living. You are now ready for the ultimate test of your ecological credentials. Well read on: THE GREEN QUIZ
- You understand that recycling is a regular part of being an environmentalist. Do you:
- Recycle cans and paper when you remember.
- Regularly sort out the regular rubbish from the recycleables and put them out for collection.
- Separate glass, tins, aluminium cans, paper, cardboard and make sure they are either collected or taken to a recycling facility.
- Try to pass on every object you have whether it is a computer or a piece of furniture, an old suit or a set of reference books.
- Saving energy is important to you. Do you:
- Switch off lights whenever you think about it and make sure not to leave the TV and hi-fi on for long periods.
- Switch off lights whenever you leave the room, set up power saver programmes on your computer, switch of electrical equipment when not in use, have a thermostat for heating.
- Have a few energy-saving bulbs, switch off computers and other electrical goods when not in use, take showers, have a thermostat and timed heating, keep doors shut, lag the loft and the water storage tank.
- Replace all light-bulbs with energy-saving ones, have both a thermostat and timed heating and keep the temperature low enough to wear woollens indoors, switch off all electrical equipment whenever you leave it even for a short time, boil only the correct amount of water for drinks, wash dishes in a small washing up bowl, have five minute showers in warm rather than hot water.
- Of course you want to use non-pollution energy so:
- You use gas as much as you can as it is less polluting than electricity.
- You ask your electricity supplier how much of their energy comes from renewable sources and encourage them to raise this percentage.
- You ask a lot of electricity suppliers how much of their energy comes from renewable sources and choose the one with the highest figure.
- You find an electrical supplier whose electricity comes from 100% renewable resources.
- You recognise that your garden can be a valuable source of habitat to local wildlife, so you:
