ENVIRONMENTAL INJUSTICE: Minorities & Environmentto polluting factories? Is it ever appropriate to allow landlords to get away with not maintaining their properties to the detriment of their tenants? Is it ever appropriate to crops spray when migrant workers are still in the fields, because this is more conventient for the farmers? Or to allow factories to release effluent directly into rivers. Or to pump raw sewage out to sea. Who suffer when this is done. Not the rich man with his nice, well-maintained, well-heated house set in ample grounds. No. If we allow these abuses to take place, then let us at least look where the harm will be felt. The people who live in polluted, toxic environments in badly-maintained and dangerous housing, who consistently have to put up with low safety standards at work and in their off hours are the poorest people in our societies...those least likely to be able to do anything about it. Let's do something about it for them. Other Articles in this Series: Join the Topic Discussion here and provide valuable feedback.
