The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive...

And so begins the fifth book in the Harry Potter series - "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

Harry is preparing to return to Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his fifth year. He is thankful to be leaving his aunt and uncle's house at 4 Privet Drive. As usual, the Dursleys have made his life miserable during the summer break. Harry can't wait to be back in school where he'll join his friends, Ron and Hermione. He wonders why they haven't contacted him during the summer. This is very unusual and Harry is baffled by their actions.

Just before Harry is to leave for school, he and his cousin Dudley have a dramatic encounter while taking a shortcut through an alley between Magnolia Crescent and Wisteria Walk. Will Harry help Dudley, whom he despises? How will Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia react to the incident? How is their mysterious neighbor, Mrs. Figg connected?

Before Harry returns to school, he is taken to number twelve, Grimmauld Place, where he is introduced to the members of "The Order of the Phoenix." He's surprised to find his best friends Ron and Hermione living there. Sirius Black, Harry's godfather, and the Weasleys are staying at the house, also. They are members of the Order of the Phoenix, along with other characters that we met in books one to four.

You will be reunited with characters Professor Snape, Professor McGonagall, Professor Sprout, Nearly Headless Nick and Peeves, among others. Some new characters make their debut. Dumbledore has a lot of huge problems in this book, as does Hagrid. In fact, Hagrid is off on a quest when Harry returns to school, but no one can find out where he is.

The Forbidden Forest is full of happenings and when Hagrid does return, he takes Harry, Ron and Hermione there to meet someone. And speaking of Hagrid, why is his face always bruised and cut?

You'll also find out what the Dementors have been up to and it isn't good. They are showing up in places where they've never been seen before and at first, no one knows why.

What will happen when Harry and his friends enter the Ministry of Magic? It's an exciting time they have there. Who ends up in Saint Mungos Hospital? Who dies? What are George and Fred cooking up in their last year at Hogwarts?
