American history is full of interesting people, exciting stories and great adventures. This book series will introduce you to colorful characters, intriguing situations and exciting exploits.

The first book in the Landmark series was published in 1952, long before you were born. "Gettysburg," is an exciting book. On the morning of July 1, 1863, people in the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, awoke to find grey-clad soldiers marching through their town. This frightened them very much. They knew a battle was coming because the Union soldiers, who wore blue, were just south of Gettysburg. When the Confederate and Union soldiers met, guns fired and cannons boomed. For three long days the battle went on. Thousands of men died in the fields around Gettysburg. This book tells the story of the men and women who heard and saw one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. This book is published by Random House. It's for kids age 9 to 12. ISBN # 0394891813.
