Magic Reading
Number 21 in the Magic Tree House series is, "Civil War on Sunday." It was published in May, 2000. In this story, Jack and Annie are taken back in time to the Civil War. They meet their own great-great-great-grandfather, as well as Clara Barton, a woman who nursed the wounded soldiers during the Civil War. You will learn about the suffering that the people of the United States went through during this terrible time and get a glimpse of the reality of war. This book has been described by young readers as, "awesome" and "sweet." All of the other books in the Magic Tree House series are just as interesting and fascinating as the ones I've describe to you here. And there's some terrific news. Book # 30, "Haunted Castles on Hallow's Eve," will be on bookshelves in August, 2003. This book promises to have the same suspense, intrigue and adventures as the first 29 books. Along with the Magic Tree House books come a series of research guides. "Rainforest: A Nonfiction Companion to Afternoon on the Amazon," is for children age 7 to 10. In this research guide Jack and Annie encourage you to do your own research on the rainforest. There are other research guides available at this time.
