What do my husband and I have in common with Empress Elizabeth of Austria, the Duke of Kent and Princess Stephanie of Monaco?
No, we are definitely not royalty, but when we dined in several of the restaurants at Reid's, we felt as if we were. Whether we enjoyed a bountiful breakfast in the Garden Restaurant, enjoyed a memorable dinner at the alfresco Brisa do Mar, with its magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean, or savored the fine Italian cuisine at Reid's Trattoria Villa Cliff, we received service that was fit for a king or a queen. Whether we are dining in some far off country or in our hometown, service is important to us. It's just as important as the ambiance and the food itself. To have a truly integrated dining experience, you have to have all three. No, we don't want obsequious, fawning service, but just sincere professional service that lets us enjoy our meal. While we like to respect our servers as individuals, we prefer to enjoy our meal in the company of each other. We asked Reid's Palace General Manager Anton Küng how he motivates his employees-here and throughout the Resort-to consistently deliver quality service. He said that the secret was hiring good, professionally motivated personnel. "Good people attract good people," he said. If you enjoy a meal in any of the dining numerous venues at Reid's Palace, you'll immediately see that he and his staff have done an outstanding job of hiring the right people. Whether it was our pleasant breakfast hostess Ana Christina Silva or the knowledgeable server who said his name is Gomez, at the Trattoria Villa Cliff, we enjoyed their professionalism as much as the cuisine. Every morning Ana greeted us with the most pleasant smile and made polite conversation as she led us to a table. It made our bountiful breakfast even more enjoyable. And when Gomez at the Trattoria came to our table to ask us something, he did so with a whisper, as if he truly didn't want to interrupt us. We appreciated that because it made our already outstanding dining experience here even better. But, while it's a genuine pleasure to dine at five-star establishments such as Reid's Palace, quality service can be found throughout the world. My Aunt Treva Walkling, for example, served as a waitress in regular restaurants in Baltimore for more than 50 years and, every day, at every table gave her best. Recently, the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore, Maryland had an exhibit on her. Baltimore Magazine featured an article on her and, in addition to a feature article, the Baltimore Sun printed an editorial. When Aunt Treva was recognized, so were all the other professional servers around the world. Go To Page: 1 |
