From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., there’s a hearty breakfast buffet that will go a long way to help you make it to your next destination without relying on in-flight entrees that you’d just as soon pass up. Coffee cups hardly ever are allowed to be empty if you like.
Although I wasn’t there for lunch or dinner, the entrees looked appealing: Salmone Affumicato, smoked salmon with toast points, cream cheese, onions and capers, ($8.95) as well as the Petto di Pollo Allegro, chicken breast sautéed with wine, garlic, rosemary and black olives, served with pasta and fresh vegetables $15.95). Even their burgers, which I generally don’t eat, sounded good—Classico 747 Burger, grilled beef burger with your choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion on a sesame seed bun, with grilled mushrooms or bacon a $1 extra. ($9.95)
Now this is not gourmet food that critics will rave over, but not many people I know have the time to savor gourmet repasts in a restaurant. What we want is good, honest food, well prepared and served with skill in a restful environment, and that’s what the Allegro offers. But the thing that impressed me the most is that the management is not ushering people quickly out the door, but actually encouraging them to linger during their layovers. Why else would they have a whole table full of board games. Now here’s a manager who understands what it’s like to travel with children.
