How would you like to dine as kings and queens do? Then head to Budapest, Hungary and make reservations at the Gambrinus Restaurant. This restaurants has served, among others, Her Majesty Elisabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom, His Majesty Carl Gustav XVI, King of Sweden, Her Majesty Beatrix, Queen of Netherlands, and His Majesty Juan Carlos I, King of Spain.
The Gambrinus Restaurant has also made its name among its own Hungarian population because it was named as the official caterer to the Hungarian Parliament to make all the arrangements for presidential, prime ministerial and royal banquets.
It’s a soft subdued setting with dim lighting and flickering candlelight that reflects on walls richly decorated with classical art. Add to this an array of fresh floral bouquets, a picture window framed with Hungarian lace, and tables laden with rich Hungarian porcelain place settings, and you know that the food is going to be spectacular. To add even more flair, there’s the rich warm tones of authentic Hungarian Gypsy music of the Palotás, as well as attentive waiters in white gloves and formal attire. Plan to spend some time here in this romantic, candlelit setting to get the full enjoyment from your meal. A dinner like this is more than just eating: it’s a dining experience to linger over, savor and enjoy to the fullest. Located on the popular Váci Street, Budapest’s pedestrian-only shopping zone, the Gambrinus is within easy walking distance from the Kempinski Corvinus Hotel and Hungary’s popular Vösömarty Square. The setting of the Gambrinus can come as a surprise because, in order to reach this restaurant, you need to thread your way through pleasant, but a much more informal restaurant and up two and one-half flights of stairs. Actually, there’s quite a range of services here—from the most elegant Gambrinus Restaurant at the top to the Bowling Bar in the basement. (And, it’s impossible to decide on just one of the many fantasy pastries at the Zsolnay Kávéház Café.) All are operated by the Taverna Hotel and Restaurant Company. But setting, as fine as it is, is only a background for diners. You can have the finest of settings, but if the cuisine doesn’t keep pace, setting is just a shell. But, as you start your dining experience at Gambrinus with something like the Arugula Salad with marinated artichokes, fresh Mozzarella, farm fresh tomatoes, as well as a thin slivers of prosciutto, you’ll realize that the romantic setting of Gambrinus is here to showcase the cuisine. And this cuisine is a tribute to Hungarian gastronomy. Go To Page: 1 2
