Celebrate with the Wines of Hungary

What food comes to mind when you think of Hungary? If you’re like most people, you’ll envision a hot bowl of hearty goulash, rich with its fragrant aroma and robust taste. Slowly simmered and spiced to perfection with their famous paprika, it’s a time-honored dish that showcases Hungary’s diverse cuisine.

And, what could be better to accompany your steamy bowl of goulash than a glass of Hungarian wine! If you’re on hand to attend the International Budapest Wine Festival in Budapest Hungary from September 3 to 16, you’ll be able to enjoy both as you learn about Hungary’s many wines and the country’s rich history of wine making.

Come join me at the festival as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hungary’s new beginning in the world of wine.

Here are some of the events you’ll be able to enjoy:

September 3 – 16 – The Feast of Wine, The Wine of the Feast – An art show is held for two weeks at the Hungarian National Gallery. An exhibition on the role of wine and wine in fine arts. Selected pieces of art from the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery.

September 3-5 - 4 to 7 p.m. – Wine Academy – a series of lectures with wine tasting organized for the general public interested in viticulture. In view of the great interest in the wine conference last year, it will be held on three occasions this year. French viticulture is also presented in the program. The entrance tickets gives free access to the Wine Exhibition and Fair.

September 6 – 9 – Wine Exhibition and Fair – Buda Castle, Szent Gyorgy Square – Wine Gastronomy – Entertainment – This outstanding event of the Festival is unique countrywide. It’s the traditional fair of Hungary’s wine producers and distributors where visitors can see the full range of Hungarian bottled wines and also taste special Hungarian dishes. Besides all these events, the exclusive French viticulture is also demonstrated in the program. A nightlight of the colorful four-day program on the Festival State is the Benko Dixieland Band’s concert on September 7, Friday at 7:30.

September 8 – Saturday 11 a.m. – Vintage Parade – The participants will march from Vorosmarty Square, through Chain Bridge up to the castle area, to Szent Gyogy Square. Among them will be the members of the Hungarian Wine Orders who will be accompanied by folk ensembles.

September 8 and 9 – Vintage Fair and Wine Festival – Szentendre, Open-air Ethnographic Museum – Demonstration and exhibition of traditions, crafts and peasant cooking associated with the culture of wine. Presentation of family cellars and their excellent wines.
