You can’t judge a book by its cover, and you definitely can’t judge a restaurant by fancy décor.

Mr. Hibachi’s Rice and Noodle Bowl, at Elden Plaza in Herndon Virginia, for example, is a small, immaculately clean storefront with no fancy decorations, yet it delivers outstanding food.

That’s because fancy decorations just aren’t needed: the food is so delicious that it stands on its own. Mr. Hibachi features rice and noodle bowls that are always made to order. Their entire menu is all natural and prepared from scratch daily. They use only the finest quality foods and ingredients - the leanest cuts of fresh beef, fresh boneless and skinless chicken breast, and the freshest fish. The meats are grilled to perfection over open flames, then topped with your favorite sauce, always homemade and always fresh.

What could be better than to have a hot, steamy Veggie Noodle Bowl or Chicken Noodle Bowl on a cold, wintery day? The broth is rich and flavorful, the chicken moist and tender, the noodles cooked to perfection—and the vegetables blanched to add just the right amount of crispy contrast. It’s a meal in one that’s delicious even on a hot day in July. In addition to the delicious flavor, the meals are low in fat, calories, and cholesterol, and no MSG is added.

Their Rice Bowls—from the Hibachi Chicken Bowl with ginger-garlic and teriyaki sauce to Boolgoki Bowl, thinly sliced been marinated in mild sweet sauce— are equally as delicious, and their California rolls are the best we’ve ever eaten. The avocado they use is always rich and creamy, without being mushy, and they don’t use cucumber, as many other restaurants do, as an inexpensive filler. Their Jap Chae, steamed sweet potato noodles with black mushrooms, spinach, onions, and carrots, have just enough spice, yet are not overpowering, and make a terrific side dish.

Prices are reasonable, and, to make the value even better, they have a “frequent diner” card. Fill it up with stamps, and you’ll get a free rice bowl.

Who needs a fancy setting when you can get food like this at such reasonable prices. Mr. Hibachi is located at 150 Elden Street, in Herndon, Virginia and is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is closed on Sundays (703) 471-6768.
