Finally, after months of rumours, Carl McCoy and the Fields of the Nephilim has gone official with their relase plans.
A new release by Carl McCoy's project 'Nefilim' is expected to be released in early 1999, which is NOW. My best guess would be February or April. This release will continue where 1996's Zoon album left off, while the planned (and partially recorded?) new Fields of the Nephilim album will be in the standard Fields fashion.
The estimated release date for the fourth FOTN album is simply "Autumn". Rumours earlier spoke of "Early 1999" but were probably confused with the Nefilim project.
If you want to be updated on truths and rumours about the current state of Fields of the Nephilim I can recommend the Psychonaut Lib. Mailing list. You can find information about joining the list, under the topic "chord of souls", here: http://www.nephilim.co.uk
More rumours concerning comebacks of 80's gothic giants of course concern The Sisters of Mercy. Rumours have been around for quite some time about new singles being released "soon". The date has been postponed from before summer 1998, to summer 1998 to september 1998 and finally to February 1999. I am of course talking about the new material that we have been hearing live for quite some time now. I believe the last thing said was that if frontman Andrew Eldritch is happy with the recording it will be out in February, and if he is NOT happy it, it will NEVER be released. I think Mr. Eldritch just needs to learn that no one is perfect, let alone himself. The Sisters of Mercy's last album release was in 1990, and the last release whatsoever was in 1993. Rumours and release dates for a fourth Sisters album appeared in 1995 but something obviously went wrong and nothing came out. The band has since toured several times with new and unreleased material which everyone seems to have found on bootleg recordings in the absence of a studio sÃngle/album. After this circus, I say that I would be surprised if The Sisters of Mercy EVER released anything more.
