Surviving After The Masters

Last night at the Little League field, a friend asked if I was going to write about the Masters. I suppose I'm morally obligated to do so, so here it is.

Vijay Singh is a worthy and deserving champion.

David Duval isn't the first player to make a regrettable decision on the thirteenth at Augusta National, and he won't be the last.

This concludes the Masters portion of our program.

Ever mindful of the yin and yang of the golf world, I'd like to take this opportunity to urge you to put the Masters behind you. Reacquaint yourself with the other side of the golf coin. The more realistic one. It's high time to watch Caddyshack again.

If you are unfamiliar with what is arguably the finest golf movie ever produced, your golfing education is fundamentally incomplete. If it has been a while since you've seen it, you owe it to yourself to watch it again as soon as is humanly possible. Otherwise, the anal retentive nature of the Masters might infect your personal perspective on the game of golf. Caddyshack provides the perfect Masters antidote. If you do not own a copy, rent one immediately.

Everything one needs to know about golf is covered in Caddyshack. Sanity-preserving golf philosophy, sound on-course strategy, wagering insights, triumphant heroes and evil villians are all present and accounted for. Simply put, the ultimate blueprint for golf success.

There are also several comprehensive Caddyshack sites on the web. Any search will yield an abundance of options. The following are a few of the more interesting:

Bushwood.net is the most comprehensive of the Caddyshack sites I've encountered. There is a little of everything here. This is the place to start.

The Caddyshack Entry in The Internet Movie Database
Lots of information here. Probably more than you'll ever need.

Caddyshack Quiz
A medium hard to tough test of your Caddyshack expertise.

CarlSpackler.com
Not a bad site, once you get used to the annoying golf ball background.

Please enjoy yourself. And if, after watching the movie or perusing the web sites, you find yourself identifying with Judge Smails and his cronies...heaven help you.
